HOLST Planets: Uranus - Arthur D Sulit (not Disney Fantasia) |
Rough Draft ideas for collaboration w friends. This is not Disney Fantasia, but inspired by it. This is my electronic orchestra rendition. I have been doing an intensive study of Gustav Holst's Planets score (1914-1917). The visual interpretation draws from examination instruments used and limited knowledge of what Holst intended, conveying an aged magician up to no good. Holst also was an Organist of "first rank", for coming up with profound sound combinations. The visuals convey only a very simplified part of Holst's orchestrations and dabblings in mysticism. It seems Tchaikovsky's orchestrations (such as for the Nutcracker) are simple and straightforward compared to Holst's. If you look at the green cards flashing, you only get a small idea of HOLST's in-decipherable lock combos, which make up his mysterious sound. He had to be a tinkerer and a magician himself, to come up with that hashishin. Thanks to Ole Jacobsen of the Peninsula American Guild of Organists for the Pipe Organ photo, and Neil Williams of Rule Britania, one of the leading HOLST scholars of today, for invaluable feedback. Music & visual production by Arthur D Sulit on Electronic Orchestra & CPUs.
