The "Well to Hell" Hoax - According to the OCPRS

The "Well to Hell" Urban Legend -- According to the OCPRS Urban legends are not typically found or promoted within Christianity. However, among some groups, there is one particular urban legend many people have heard of -- the "Well to Hell" whereby the screams of the souls of the damned were recorded. The following is a typical summary of the "Well to Hell" urban legend: An experimental drilling team, headed by a Dr. Victor Azzacov, managed to drill a 14.5 kilometres (9 miles) deep borehole in Siberia. The drill began to spin wildly, indicating that they had reached a pocket or cavern. Before the drilling could continue, researchers lowered a special microphone and other test equipment. Dr. Azzacov intended on recording plate tectonic movements and the temperature among other things. Temperatures were recorded at an incredible 1,100 degrees Celsius (2012 degrees Fahrenheit). The microphone, however, did not detect plate tectonic movements. Instead, the sounds of millions of screaming people could be heard. Azzacov, who was an atheist scientist of the USSR, could not believe what he was hearing. Along with the other researchers, Azzacov concluded that they had drilled a hole to HELL! Although the "Well to Hell" is nothing more than a hoax created by unscrupulous individuals, it has survived through various Christian groups and individuals. What most people fail to see in such a hoax is how it promotes misconceptions about the afterlife. In a subtle way, the "Well to Hell" suggests that Hell is physically accessible. There is no such teaching from the Church or Bible that would suggest such a thing is possible. The sensationalism of the "Well to Hell" urban legend serves as a poor foundation on which other false teachings and misconceptions may be built. This is the inherent danger of such an urban legend. This video serves two purposes: 1) to further expose the "Well to Hell" hoax, and 2) To share the views on the afterlife as they are known through the teachings of the Orthodox Church -- the Holy Bible and the writings of the Holy Church Fathers (for details, please visit our Blog) Although many people believe in the existence of the "Well to Hell" they are blindly accepting a lie that exploits their faith. Accepting such an urban legend from their spiritual leaders, they are accepting something that excludes the truth about the afterlife as it is known in the Bible and Church. The existence of Hell is not rejected, but how it is represented through lies is problematic.
